Last week the wife-unit and I stopped into our friendly neighborhood Islands Restaurant to get some quick drinks and a snack prior to seeing Hot Tub Time Machine.  We really weren’t sure going into the movie how good it was going to be so it made sense to have a drink or two just in case.  Just so you know, its about a 2 or 3 drink movie for it to really be funny I think.  For a snack we were limited to chips and salsa/guacamole and french fries so we went with the fries.  There was another guy at the bar chowing down on some little sliders that looked amazing.  I called him a ‘jerk’ in my head while I sipped on a mai tai and wished I had some vegan sliders to munch on.

I’ve made vegan burgers before and they were great, but I hadn’t thought to make them smaller.  Honestly they aren’t that difficult but they taste freaking amazing.  These ones came out so good in fact that I felt a little like this….click play below…

So here they are…

Vegan Sliders (Burger patties)

  • 16 oz can of black beans (rinsed)
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped red pepper
  • 1/2 cup cooked lentils
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1 tbsp ground flax seeds (optional)
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp crushed walnuts (optional)
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp chopped parsley
  • 1/2 cup vegan breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp Montreal steak seasoning (or replace with 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp ground black pepper)
  • Vegan cheese
  • Vegan dinner rolls

Mix all of ingredients together in a food processor or blender and process/blend them until there are no longer any large chunks.  Heat a pan to medium/high heat and lightly oil the pan.  Form the burger matter into patties the same width of the buns you have and about a quarter to a half inch thick.  Grill the patties until slightly browned on each side.  Move the patties to the buns you have and top with vegan cheese and your favorite burger toppings and enjoy!  Goes great with sweet potato fries!

    Mmmm this looks awesome! Also, Trader Joe’s right now has vegan slider buns (sooo mini and so cute!!!) so go grab ‘em up (I hate to sound like an advertisement but I am genuinely excited about this)! Happy sliding!

    Thanks, My husband I made these for guest who are meat eaters and they couldnt stop eating them (I put a little vegan Fake meat bullion in with the lentils) and left out the chilli powder of the may We made tex-mex style opting out of the mayo and cheese we added avocado and chipolte sauce and fresh jalapenos and tomatoes.. We made the left overs into taco salad the next day.. yummy.. Thanks again for sharing your recipe
